Tacloban Medical Institute Graduate tops the 2015 Physical Therapist exam

Tacloban City—Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Foundation (RTRMF) graduate Krizelle Lou Cabrigas Sampayan only knew that she  topped the February 2015 Physical Therapist Licensure Examination when Jay Anthony Canete, head of PT department of RTRMF called her on her cell phone.

Sampayan said that, at first,  she did not believe her adviser and thought that Canete was only joking.

“Hindi po talaaga ako naniwala kay Sir Canete at paulit ulit kong sinabi na huwag po naman kayong magbiro ng ganyan Sir. Pero noong makatanggap na ako ng mga text messages na nagku congratulate sa akin for topping na PT exam nagtatalon na po ako sa tuwa.” Sampayan said.

Sampayan who graduated on top of her class, bested 412 passers with a score of 85.80 percent.

Krizelle graduated valedictorian in Calbiga National High School in Calbiga, Samar. She came from a poor family and have not thought of studying a Medical-related course because it is and expensive course  but  Good Abejuela Foundation, a private foundation based in Las Vegas, Nevada, offered her scholarship if she takes up Physical Theraphy course.

The foundation provided her of all her needs, including  books, and board and lodging. She said that se chose to study in RTRMF because it is one of the top performing school not only in Region 8 but in the whole country as will.

RTRMF is also the 4th top performing school in the February 2015 Physical Therapist LicensureExamination with 15 or more examinees and with at least 80 percent passing.

The top schools are:

1. University of Santo Tomas – 94.12 percent

2. Silliman University – 87.5 percent

3. Far Eastern University Nicanoir Reyes Medical Foundation – 82.35 percent

4. Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation – 80 percent

RTRMF also topped this year’s Nurse Licensure Examination. According to the PRC’s announcement of the Top Performing Schools in the November 2014 NLE Results, the Remedios T. Romualdez Medical Foundation, Saint Paul University-Iloilo, Saint Paul University-Tuguegarao and Xavier University topped the list of Top Performing Schools with an average ratings of 100 percent.

RTRMF was named the fifth top performing nursing school among 483 institutions offering the nursing course in the  nursing board exam given in Dec. 7-8, 2013.

RTRMF got a passing percentage of 96.94, with 95 out of 98 students passing the exam. This is the sixth consecutive year that RTRMF landed on the list of top performing nursing schools. It ranked 6th in 2008, 8th in 2009, 9th in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation was established by former Leyte Gov. Benjamin T. Romualdez in 1980. The foundation (a non-stock, non-profit organization) opened a College of Medicine starting with its first year medical course in June 1980.

In 1984, the foundation opened its College of Nursing with an initial enrolment of 58 students. Since then, the college has generated the enviable record of becoming the top 10 college of nursing out of the more then 400 nursing schools in the Philippines.
