Ecstasy seized at post office

Bureau of Customs staff seized a mailed parcel containing 1,010 tables of ethylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA, known as “Ecstasy” worth P1.5 million.

The parcel was tipped as containing contraband was mailed by a certain J. Vermolen from the Netherlands on December 9, 2014 to a certain Martin Sean S. Duenas of Sinag Tala Village, BF Homes, Parañaque.

The package arrived at the Parañaque Post Office on Dec.. 22 and was subjected to physical examination.

On record, the seized “Ecstasy” tablets were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency late Thursday night.

“Illegal drug traders have attempted to use the postal service repeatedly to move various types of drugs because of the anonymity and the perception of lower risk. We will continue to be vigilant in monitoring cargoes that is highly suspicious to stop the entry of illegal drugs and other contraband goods,” the bureau said.

Last Monday, authorities seized 40 kilograms of high-grade methamphetamine hydrochloride or ‘shabu,’ worth about P400 million concealed inside water pumps sent from Taipei via Hong Kong through NAIA Pair cargo warehouse.
