Philippine Navy Civil Military Operations Group (CMOG) Chief Col. Edgard Arevalo said  retired Marine Master Sergeant Romeo Sierra was inside the Jose Francisco firing range at about 8:125 a.m.

Arevalo said Sierra was shot in the mouth when discovered by unidentified navy man. A caliber .45 pistol was found beside the victim.

Footage from the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) showed him alighting from a tricyle at about 6:58 a.m. and going directly to the firing range.

Sources close to the soldier said he was having financial difficulties and was allegedly planning to pawn his personal 45. caliber pistol to raise funds.
