Senator Leila De Lima faces a charge of disobedience at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Rodolfo Fariñas and House Committee on Justice Chairman Reynaldo Umali filed the criminal case on Tuesday morning.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre received the complaint.

The issue stems from the alleged failure of De Lima to attend the House hearing into the proliferation of illegal drug trade in New Bilibid Prison.

They believe the senator violated Article 150 of the Revised Penal Code for ignoring a  summon by the national assembly, its committee and sub-committee.

The House leaders also seek to penalize the senator for supposedly discouraging her security aide Ronnie Dayan from attending the House inquiry.

This offense carries a penalty of fine and possibly a prison term of up to 6 months.
