The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is creating a policy that will require students to undergo drug testing before they are admitted in universities and colleges.

CHED Executive Director Julito Vitriolo made the announcement in a press briefing in the Palace.

The program is in line with the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

He also said, the commission plans to revive the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or the ROTC.

“CHED is strengthening the ROTC program and ensuring drug-free campuses, following the President’s directive,” he said.

Vitriolo also noted that CHED is discussing with Senate the tuition-free policy in state universities and colleges.

When asked for his reaction on the order of President Duterte for CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan to stop attending cabinet meetings, Vitriolo said, “We’re ambivalent. It’s a wait-and-see situation.”
