PNP reshuffles SAF troopers guarding Bilibid

PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa has reshuffled the Special Action Forces (SAF) members who are guarding the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

On Friday, he sent a new batch of SAF operatives to replace over 400 members of the elite police unit who currently maintain the security at NBP’s Building 14 where high profile inmates are detained and the Maximum Security Compound.

Bureau of Corrections Deputy Director Rolando Asuncion says, the reorganization is meant to prevent instances when the jail guards and the prisoners may build an “unholy alliance.”

The first batch of SAF operatives were assigned to the National Penitentiary four months ago.

In a program at NBP on Friday morning, PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa thanked the SAF troopers who had served the detention facility.

“[Because of] your honesty and pure integrity, hindi nila kayo nasira, hindi tayo nasira, kaya napakalaki ng pasasalamat ko sa inyo,” Dela Rosa said.
