The Department of Health (DOH) announces, all cigarette packs being sold in stores nationwide must bear graphic health warnings on cigarette smoking starting Friday.

DOH Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Eric Tayag says, selling cigarette contained in old packs that bear no such warnings will no longer be allowed.

Tayag says, cigarette manufacturers have been previously given 12 templates that they can choose from as they print labels on their products.

He adds, manufacturers who will violate the order will face fines and there shall be no extension on the new policy’s implementation period.

The new order is mandated by the Graphic Health Warning (GHW) Law.

It states that the graphic health warning should occupy 50 percent of the front panel and 50 percent of the back panel of all cigarette packs.
