House panel fails to approve report on SSS pension hike

The House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privitization failed to approve on Tuesday the committee report that grants an increase of P 2,000 to Social Security System (SSS) monthly pension.

Lack of quorum is the reason for the delay as many lawmakers were absent.

On September 8, 2016, the committee had already passed the motion filed by Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate that sought the omnibus approval of 15 measures seeking an SSS pension hike.

He hopes the House will immediately approve the bill on SSS pension increase in a plenary session.

Former President Benigno Aquino had previously vetoed the bill, citing lack of government funds.
