Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald dela Rosa held a press conference at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City at noon on Saturday.

He said, there are many speculations on who perpetrated the blast in Davao City that killed 14 persons.

The Abu Sayyaf earlier claimed responsibility for the tragedy, but De la Rosa said, “we do not take that at face value.”

He noted, “there are many theories, but unless we find hard evidence to validate the claims,” then these will remain unconfirmed.

Referring to the bombers, Dela Rosa said, “alam nila na mahal na mahal namin ng Pangulo ang Davao City, kaya they struck hard to elicit response from the President.”

He further said, drug lords could also be behind the explosion.

“Baka part of narco-terrorism ito, para ma-shift ang atensyon namin away from drugs.”

Dela Rosa is flying to Davao City on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, PNP-Davao Region 11 Chief Manuel Gaerlan is also looking at the angle where the incident could have been related to a feud among local vendors in Davao City’s market.

Gaerlan says, only a limited number of vendors are allowed to join the Friday night market and not all vendors can sell their products on this particular night of the week.

The PNP’s investigation on the attack continues.
