The Senate investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings relating to the campaign against drugs has started in the Senate on Monday morning.

In her opening statement, Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights Chairman said, the rampant killings of drug suspects “seem to be an excuse for law enforcers and vigilante groups to commit murder with impunity.”

The committee will hear the testimonies of 12 witnesses in 8 incidents where 11 persons were killed.

The senator added, these testimonies represent the sample population of over 1,000 cases of deaths of persons alleged to have drug links.

Present in the hearing are PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa and Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Chito Gascon.
