President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his hatred for oligarchs who make money from the destruction of the environment.
He made this known in his speech at the Environmental Summit in Ateneo de Davao on Thursday afternoon.
He said, "kung bubutasin ang mga bundok for tunnels, there will never be any more resources for your children."
He also lamented that only those who are well-connected and who know government officials in 'Imperial Manila' get to secure important contracts like logging and mining deals.
The President is also wary of open-pit mining.

He says, the standards being used by Canada and Australia in their mining industries should serve as the country's model.
