OWWA’s cellphone purchases ‘excessive’

THE Commission on Audit is questioning the excessive grant of iPad and iPhone units to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration personnel in 2015.

In an audit report, the Commission said OWWA’s disbursements for expensive iPads and iPhones were deemed excessive.

Due to the absence of a management policy, several of OWWA’s employees and officials were able to avail themselves of more than one unit.

“There are officials/employees who possess more than one quality communication equipment that included iPhone and iPad. Also, even non-organic officer/personnel was provided with one unit,” the CoA said.

“The  management does not have existing policy related to the limitation on the entitlement of OWWA personnel on the usage of electronic gadgets, such that officers/employees can have gadgets of their choice and can even avail for more than one unit.”

CoA urged OWWA’s general and administrative service to recall the extra units from the concerned personnel.
