The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will issue a show cause order against Duterte Youth party-list first nominee Drixie Mae Cardema to explain an issue over her alleged use of another surname.
In a statement, the poll body said it will seek clarification from Drixie Mae for allegedly using a different surname on her Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination (CON-CAN) during the previous election.
Drixie Mae is the sister of Ducielle Marie Cardema, and Ducielle’s husband is Ronald Cardema, the chairman of the said partylist.
In the CON-CAN submitted by Drixie to Comelec last year, she used the surname “Cardema” while her middle name was listed as “Suarez”—similar to the name of her sister Ducielle when she was not yet married.
On Wednesday, June 4, Comelec chairman George Garcia said the law department is currently reviewing the documents submitted by the party-list.
Garcia also previously stated that the case of the party-list is complicated.
The proclamation of the Duterte Youth party-list was postponed when it won in the May 12 elections due to pending petitions against it.
