Lakas-CMD clinches 104 seats, still most dominant party in House

Under the leadership of Speaker Martin Romualdez, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) has secured its position as the most dominant political party in the House of Representatives, winning 104 seats in the May 2025 midterm elections.

Romualdez, who serves as president of Lakas-CMD led the party’s expansive and disciplined campaign across the country.

Of the 128 congressional candidates fielded by Lakas-CMD, 104 emerged victorious, giving the party a commanding share in the incoming 20th Congress, according to data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“This is a vote of confidence not just in our candidates, but in the kind of leadership and unity that Lakas-CMD represents,” Romualdez said of the report sent to him by Lakas-CMD Executive Director Anna Capella Velasco.

“As party president, I am deeply grateful to the Filipino people for reaffirming our role as a driving force for progress and good governance,” he added, noting that the party remains firmly at the helm of the House majority.

The victories include 79 reelected incumbents and 25 new representatives, showcasing a balanced mix of experience and fresh energy under the party’s expanding national umbrella.

Romualdez, a lawyer from the University of the Philippines (UP) and also president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) said the electoral performance ensures that it will continue to lead legislative efforts in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas agenda.

The House Speaker was also reelected as representative of Leyte’s First District, highlighting the results as a strong foundation for the party’s future.

“Lakas-CMD is not just winning elections—we’re building a long-term vision of leadership, service, and nation-building. With this fresh mandate, we are ready to work harder, legislate better, and serve every Filipino with even greater urgency,” Romualdez said.

The Lakas-CMD president also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to work closely with its allies in the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, a broad coalition of major political parties supporting the administration’s reform agenda.

“Together with our partners in the Alyansa, we will continue to push for laws that create jobs, protect the vulnerable, improve education, and strengthen our democracy,” Romualdez said.
