Voters experience delay in some polling centers on Election Day

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported delays in some polling centers amid a surge of voters participating in the 2025 midterm elections.

Registered voters in Marilao, Bulacan, for example, waited for almost three hours starting at 7:00 a.m. to cast their ballots in their respective precincts.

The waiting time was attributed to the long lines of voters merging in one classroom with only one working automatic counting machine (ACM).

Lina Dumayal, a street vendor told Manila Standard she did not mind waiting for hours just to be able to exercise her right to suffrage this year.

Kaya naman maghintay, basta makaboto kasi karapatan ko ito (I can wait as long as I can vote because this is my right),” she said.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo on Monday said only 34,494 or 91.92% of polling centers are casting ballots as the regular voting hours started at 7:09 a.m.

The delays in some polling centers were attributed to technical glitches and power interruptions, according to Fajardo.

These delays were reported in Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Cordillera Administrative Region, Davao Region, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Fajardo in an update said the casting of votes in Pantabangan National High School in Nueva Ecija has resumed.

Regular voting hours were set from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
