The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s allegations of potential widespread cheating in the upcoming election, stating that such occurrences are impossible due to the use of modern election technology.
“We assure everyone that there will be no cheating, contrary to what some may think, especially if they are not fortunate in the upcoming election,” Comelec chairman George Garcia said in response to Duterte’s allegations.
In an interview, the poll chief said that with the implementation of modern technology and Automated Counting Machines (ACMs), the commission can ensure that there will be no cheating during this election.
“We assure everyone that any concerns about potential election fraud, which may be on the minds of some, will not occur in the upcoming elections,” Garcia said.
“Our commission guarantees that the election process will be transparent, enhancing the integrity of our electoral system while ensuring that those who are rightfully elected are duly recognized,” the Comelec chief added.
In an interview at Villamor Airbase, VP Duterte cautioned against the possibility of widespread election fraud in the May elections.
Duterte expressed concerns that the candidates supported by the administration may face defeat in the upcoming election due to increasing support for block voting in favor of the PDP Laban slate.
“The block voting for the nine PDP candidates is gaining momentum, but I warn you to be wary of election fraud; it could be severe,” the vice president said.
However, Garcia assured that the commission will take measures to prevent any cheating and emphasized a commitment to transparency.
“We understand the statement made by our esteemed Vice President, but I assure you that there will be no electoral fraud. We will demonstrate this by utilizing modern technology in an open and transparent manner,” Garcia said.
