Comelec to OFWs: Register first in the system to vote online

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) advised overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who are registered voters abroad must first enroll in the voting system online to exercise their civic duty, since they are not automatically eligible to vote in the coming May 2025 midterm elections.

Comelec chairman George Garcia said enrollment for online voting will start on March 20 and end on May 7.

The 1.3 million overseas voters must register in the system to obtain a password, saying the system will require identity verification through government-issued identification, such as passports, seaman’s books, and other comparable documents.

A one-time-pin will be provided to the online voter.

Test voting will happen until April 13 while the actual voting period is from April 13 to May 12.

The Comelec had to show that the systems they are using work in coordination with each other, most especially for the OFWs, who would vote online in this pilot program.

“Voting abroad is a whole month. We have 17 posts abroad that will not be doing internet voting, we will still send a machine to whichever machine we will use here on election day,” he said.

Among the posts where internet voting will not be offered are China and Russia.
