A Commission on Elections (Comelec) task force on Friday filed a complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office of Manila against a vice mayoral candidate from Isabela province for allegedly violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
Task Force KKK sa Halalan said that lawyer Jeryll Harold Respicio posted videos on his Facebook page that allegedly demonstrate methods how to tamper and manipulate the 2025 elections through hacking the automated counting machines and accessing the local source code.
Respicio is a candidate for the vice mayoral position in Reina Mercedes, Isabela province.
“This situation is alarming. Beyond the spread of misinformation, it poses a significant risk as it conditions the public to believe that elections can be manipulated,” Comelec Chair George Garcia said.
“Consider this: if he wins, he may attribute his victory to his manipulative tactics, but if he loses, he could claim that others were responsible for altering the election results,” he said.
