Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan of Bicol Saro party-list reminded the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the rights of citizens are protected in carrying out its 100-day security plan to ensure the orderly and peaceful conduct of the May 2025 elections.
At the same time, Saro also commended PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil for rolling out the security plan, which the latter said would focus on the deployment of personnel in election hotspots, the setting up of checkpoints, and intensified intelligence operations.
Marbil said that in the implementation of the 100-day security plan, the PNP will also prioritize the dismantling of private armed groups, pursuing wanted persons, and stepping up operations against unlicensed firearms.
Yamsuan said PNP personnel should also keep in mind that they are to remain non-partisan in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
On top of ensuring respect for the rule of law and human rights, the success of the PNP’s security plan also hinges on the seamless coordination between the police, other law enforcement agencies, and the local government units, as well as the cooperation of our citizens, Yamsuan said.
He also cited the need for the PNP to ensure that its members undergo continuing training and education to familiarize themselves with police operational procedures and human rights-based approaches to enforcing the law.
