Day 1 of official campaign period ‘generally peaceful’—PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Wednesday that the first day of the 90-day official campaign period for the national candidates went “generally peaceful.”

In a statement, the PNP National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC) said there “no major untoward incidents” recorded across the country.

The PNP also urged all candidates, their supporters, and the public to uphold peace, order, and the rule of law as the campaign period progresses.

Cops were deployed nationwide and will remain vigilant in monitoring adherence to election-related laws, particularly the gun ban, in coordination with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other concerned agencies.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to securing a safe, orderly, and credible electoral process leading up to Election Day,” the PNP statement read.

“We call on the public to report any election-related concerns to the nearest police station or through our designated hotlines and social media platforms,” it added.

The PNP assured Filipinos of its impartiality, professionalism, and dedication in fulfilling its mandate to safeguard democracy and protect every citizen during this crucial election period.

On Tuesday, PNP chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil reaffirmed that the PNP would remain apolitical, impartial, and committed solely to maintaining peace and order.

Marbil said the PNP leadership does not and would never condone political partisanship within its ranks.
