Indie aspirants challenge Robredo-Bordado tandem in Naga City

Former Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo is not running unopposed in Naga City, Camarines Sur as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) accepted four other independent candidates, who aspire to become the next city mayor.

The Comelec city election officer reported as of 5:00 PM Friday that four individuals namely Luis Ortega, Restituto De Quiros, Diego Coner, Sr. and Leonida Cormanes filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COC) for mayor of Naga City in the 2025 local elections.

Robredo’s running mate, Gabriel Bordado, Jr., is also facing four opponents in the vice mayor race. They are Fortunato Mendoza, Christopher Fortuna, Benjamin Manuel Villafuerte and Edna Reniva.

The Robredo-Bordado tandem are endorsed by the Liberal Party. They filed their COCs on October 5.

Naga City is currently under the leadership of Mayor Nelson Legacion and Vice Mayor Cecilia de Asis with Bordado as the incumbent representative.

Robredo aims to build on the legacy of her late husband, award-winning politician Jesse Robredo, in returning to local politics to lead Naga City after serving as vice president from 2016 to 2022.
