Lawyer and public servant Karlo Nograles formally launched his bid for Davao City mayor on Tuesday after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC).
Nograles, who was working as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), offered himself as a qualified alternative to the reigning Duterte dynasty in Davao City.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte earlier submitted his COC for Davao City mayor, but withdrew it on the last day of COC filing at Commission on Elections (Comelec) to join the 2025 senatorial race, according to reports.
This development left the door open for Nograles to revive his political career after spending years working for the CSC.
Nograles previously served as Cabinet Secretary of Duterte during his presidency from 2018 to 2022, before assuming the chairmanship of CSC. Prior to that, he worked as Davao City first district representative from 2010 to 2018.
