Both administrative and criminal charges will be filed against a police officer who fired indiscriminately at three minors in Parañaque City over firecracker use, Philippine National Police acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.
Nartatez said an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
“The Philippine National Police will never tolerate any behavior that compromises public safety and the trust and confidence of the people, as well as abuse of authority, among our personnel,” he said.
“In this case, policemen should be role models of responsible gun ownership and good character in the community. Any action that does not conform to the high standard of being a police officer will be dealt with,” Nartatez added.
Police reports indicated that at the height of the confrontation, the rookie cop allegedly drew his issued 9mm firearm and fired shots in front of the minors on Christmas Eve.
The 28-year-old police was arrested in the early hours of Christmas Day and is currently under police custody.
