Napolcom orders 90-day suspension of ex-CIDG chief Macapaz

Former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Brigadier Gen. Romeo Macapaz has been suspended for 90 days amid ongoing investigation into serious complaints filed against him, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) announced on Thursday.

Napolcom Executive Director and Vice Chairperson Rafael Vicente Calinisan read the resolution in a press conference. Macapaz has been accused of deliberately impeding and frustrating the government’s investigation into the case of the ‘missing sabungeros.’

Elakim Patindongan, brother of whistleblower Julie ‘Dondon’ Patidongan, charged Macapaz of unlawfully seizing his mobile phone as well as that of his other brother, Jose, which contained evidence in the ‘missing sabungeros’ case.

“Respondent (Macapaz) altered messages contained in the cellphones by deleting some of the messages. He even allegedly concealed the SD cards of the cellphones despite knowing that these are material evidence in the missing Sabungeros case,” the Napolcom resolution read.

Napolcom noted that this complaint is related to the pending administrative cases against several police officers linked to the disappearance and alleged execution of several cockfighting enthusiasts.
