The 15-year-old girl who was shot by her ex-boyfriend inside Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija has died, police said on Wednesday.
Nueva Ecija police director Colonel Heryl Bruno confirmed that the victim passed away on Tuesday evening. The 18-year-old suspect also died more than 24 hours after the shooting incident.
According to police, the suspect entered the school on August 7 at around 10 a.m. and tried to get the victim out of her classroom. When she refused, he shot her before turning the gun on himself. Authorities recovered a .22-caliber snub-nose revolver from the scene.
Police Regional Office-3 chief Police Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. expressed sadness over the incident and stressed the need to protect students and maintain safe learning environments. He also urged vigilance in reporting threats or suspicious behavior.
The PRO-3 said it will bolster police presence in schools, enhance coordination with administrators, and work closely with parents to ensure safety. Stress debriefings will be conducted for affected students and teachers.
