THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owner, operator and driver of a Green and Smart Mobility (GSM) taxi over their alleged involvement in a road mishap in Quezon City.
LTO chief Markus Lacanilao ordered them to appear before its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at the agency’s central office on May 27 at 10 a.m., while ordering the IID to issue a show cause order against them.
This followed an incident along 20th Avenue in Cubao, Quezon City that led to a collision of eight motorcycles and injuries to several persons. The crash later went viral on social media.
Lacanilao also ordered the immediate alarm status on the vehicle and imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver’s license pending investigation.
The LTO directed the respondents to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving, being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, and employing a reckless, insolent, discourteous or arrogant driver.
The agency also required the submission of the vehicle’s official receipt/certificate of registration and a valid certificate of public convenience.
The LTO said failure to appear at the scheduled hearing would be considered a waiver of the respondents’ right to present their side.
It also warned that the case may be resolved based on the evidence gathered.
