LTFRB issues over P651m in fuel subsidies to PUV drivers, operators

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has released more than P651 million in fuel subsidies to public transport operators and drivers nationwide, the agency said Monday.

LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza II said the rollout has faced “minor challenges,” particularly in Metro Manila, but noted that these issues have been addressed to ensure smoother distribution in the provinces.

“The goal remains the same—fast distribution of the fuel subsidy. We assure our friends and partners in the PUV sector that we are on the right track,” Mendoza said.

Regional directors have been instructed to continue validating beneficiary lists in coordination with concerned government agencies to ensure the P5,000 cash aid reaches qualified operators and drivers without delays.

The government has allocated P2.4 billion for the fuel subsidy program in response to rising fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East.

Of the P651,185,000 released since March 17, Metro Manila received the largest share at P181.278 million, followed by CALABARZON with P98.215 million and Central Luzon with P73.416 million.

Beneficiaries include operators and drivers of modern and traditional jeepneys, UV Express units, passenger and point‑to‑point buses, TNVS units, Filcabs, taxis, tricycles, and delivery services.

“The task is not yet done. There is still a lot to do, but we assure our countrymen that the entire government is working together not only to release the fuel subsidy as soon as possible but also to find other ways to assist the PUV sector,” Mendoza said.
