ORANI, Bataan—AboitizPower has committed P37.4 million to strengthen mangrove rehabilitation and turtle conservation efforts in Bataan, and at the same time, honored fisherfolk and environmental volunteers during the signing of two agreements here on Monday.
AboitizPower GMEC- GNPD vice president for corporate services Andrea Madrid cited the Tubo-Tubo Fisherfolks Association led by Rosana Laxa and the Sagip Pawikan Sitio Fuerte team headed by Arnold Mendoza, describing the two organizations as “frontliners in protecting the environment and driving change in coastal communities.”
Madrid said AboitizPower, through GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), continues to promote responsible corporate citizenship by going beyond power generation and actively supporting environmental protection and community development.
The first accord covers the seven-year, P24-million Orani Mangrove Experimental Forest Project, which expands to 32 hectares the company’s 12-hectare adopted mangrove in Barangay Kabalutan, Orani. The second extends the Sagip Pawikan Conservation and Protection Project, also known as Sagip PaWeCan, for another five years with a P13.4-million investment to ensure the continued protection and safe release of sea turtle hatchlings in Morong.
