MAMAMAYANG Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima on Sunday criticized the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), saying it focused only on flood control projects and that livestreaming its proceedings proved “useless.”
“Amid the long procession and plenty of preludes, the ICI ended just that way,” De Lima said.
“It was even set up as an ICC, but it only looks into flood control projects. Only a few have been investigated. The livestreaming that was done was also useless,” she added.
De Lima also faulted the administration for allowing the panel to shut down instead of pushing for legislation that would establish a stronger investigative body.
“Having a lot on his plate, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. just let the ICI shut down instead of acting to certify as urgent our proposed ICAIC law, which would create a more independent, more fully equipped and empowered body to take over the ICI,” she said.
The lawmaker added that they would continue to push for an investigation.
“Otherwise, it is becoming clearer by the day that the public is just being taken for a ride, that the administration is just making promises of a serious investigation and announcements that there will be big fish to be jailed in the biggest corruption scam in our history. Oh my, to say that we are disappointed is an understatement,” De Lima said.
