Año files raps vs. Defensor, Baligod 18 over malicious allegations

National Security Adviser (NSA) Eduardo Año filed a complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday against lawyer Levi Baligod and 18 individuals, who identified themselves as former soldiers, including former lawmaker Mike Defensor.

In an interview with justice reporters, Año shared this is the first of the several complaints he will file.

Nag-file ako ng case against iyong mga sinasabing ex-marines at saka kay Atty. Baligod kasama si (I filed a case against the alleged ex-marines and Atty. Baligod including) Mike Defensor. If you remember, isinama nila ako doon sa (they included me in their) signed affidavit and that is really malicious and fabrication and bereft of truth,” the NSA said.

“I have to protect my name. I have to defend my honor because I will not sell my name to anyone or to any amount so that is really malicious,” he added.

Año filed a complaint for alleged violation of Article 154 or unlawful means of publication or unlawful utterances in line with alleged violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

He denied receiving a paper bag following an alleged meeting with resigned Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima based on the affidavit of the alleged former soldiers. He said he never held such a meeting with the concerned personalities.

“I was really surprised and, of course, we say I am really mad with their malicious imputation na sabihin nilang tumanggap ako (that I received a bribe). Never will I do that in my life, kaya nga hahabulin ko sila. Ito lang ang unang kaso (that’s why I’m suing them. This is just the first case),” Año said.
