Mang Larry’s Isawan closes UP Diliman branch after court order

Grilled street-food business and culinary landmark Mang Larry’s Isawan announced the closure of its main branch at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman branch for relocation.

According to a report by student publication Tinig ng Plaridel of the UP College of Media and Communication, members of the Quezon City anti-squatting task force came to the local Mang Larry’s Isawan stall and began removing items from the premises, allegedly without an eviction notice.

Owner Angelo Convencido said they were caught off guard by the enforcement, adding that their family has struggled with years of relocation and legal challenges related to their occupancy.

The university’s official student publication, the Philippine Collegian, likewise reported that the closure followed a court order linked to land use and tenancy issues.

Convencido said university officials, including the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, later explained the situation and that the business would coordinate its next steps.

In a statement posted on social media, Mang Larry’s Isawan thanked the University of the Philippines for allowing the business to operate on campus for many years and expressed gratitude to customers for their continued support.

It has since assured patrons that operations will continue in other locations, including branches in Maginhawa and near the University of Santo Tomas.
