Erwin rules out 2028 bid, Bam says won’t run for VP

Sen. Erwin Tulfo on Thursday confirmed that he has no plans to run for the country’s top post amid speculation about a potential tandem with former vice president Leni Robredo.

The neophyte senator described the rumors as flattering but emphasized that he and his family are exhausted from previous political battles, legal challenges, and public criticisms during the 2025 elections.

“I don’t have plans to run for higher office. There are still many out there they should take a look at first. There are plenty of capable people. I can suggest Bam Aquino or Senator Risa Hontiveros. There are many qualified individuals who could serve as VP Leni’s running mate,” Tulfo said.

He also revealed that his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, also prefers to focus on his Senate reelection rather than pursue higher office.

Meanwhile, Sen. Bam Aquino denied that he will run for vice president in the 2028 elections.

“I will not run for Vice President in 2028,” Aquino posted with a relieved face emoji on social media.

Attached to his post was a local headline suggesting a possible tandem with Vice President Sara Duterte, who has announced her upcoming presidential bid, as her running mate in 2028.
