President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Transportation broke ground Friday for two underground stations of the P488.5-billion Metro Manila Subway Project at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City.
Known as Contract Package (CP) 105, the underground stations are the Kalayaan Avenue Station, located beneath 11th Avenue and Uptown Open Parking, and the BGC Station located along McKinley Parkway in between Serendra and Market! Market!

Both stations are situated within BGC, Taguig City and cover a total route length of 1.331 kilometers.
CP 105 will use the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) to build tunnels and employ the Cut-and-Cover method for the station. The project duration is approximately 67 months, or five years and seven months from the commencement of works.
Billed as the Philippines’ “Crown Jewel” of mass transit system, the Metro Manila Subway will cut across eight cities stretching from Valenzuela City to FTI-Bicutan in Parañaque City with a spur line to NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City.

The 33-kilometer, 17-station rail line aims to cut travel time between Quezon City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City from the present one hour and 10 minutes to just 35 minutes.
Once operational, the underground railway system can service up to 500,000 passengers daily.
