The dedicated inner busway lane along both the northbound and southbound sections of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, stretching from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense Street in Makati City, has returned to normal operations.
The restoration follows the completion of an asphalt overlay on the busway lane, a key component of the broader EDSA Rehabilitation Project.
This improvement is expected to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area, providing a more efficient commuting experience for passengers.
The repair works were completed within the original timeline, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to fast-track improvements to ensure faster and more comfortable travel for commuters returning to work and school following the week-long holiday break.
On Monday, newly designated Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicholas Torre III, together with representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTR), and other government agencies, inspected the stretch of EDSA undergoing the rehabilitation.
During their inspection from Orense to Roxas Boulevard (both northbound and southbound lanes), the team discussed that the DPWH rehabilitation efforts will continue in other areas, but these will be carried out exclusively at night, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., in order to ensure the road remains passable.
The MMDA assured that no more road works will be conducted after 4 a.m. until the affected lanes are reopened.
This approach aims to minimize traffic disruptions during peak hours while ensuring the necessary repairs are completed efficiently.
The officials who joined the inspection include MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Assistant Secretary David Angelo Vargas, MMDA Traffic Discipline Office Director for Enforcement Vic Nuñez, and officials from DPWH, the DOTR Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, meanwhile, thanked DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon for leading and completing the rehabilitation works on schedule.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa DPWH sa pamumuno ni Sec. Dizon dahil mabilis nilang natapos itong rehabilitation works sa busway lane. Saktong-sakto kasi back to school at back to work na karamihan ng mga pasahero, kaya tuloy-tuloy na ‘yung mabilis at mas convenient nilang biyahe gamit ‘yung busway,” Lopez said.
He reiterated that the inner busway lane remains strictly exclusive to authorized passenger buses.
