Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes on Sunday welcomed the proposed microloan program of the Social Security System, saying SSS and the Government Service Insurance System are the only institutions capable of meeting the loan needs of pensioners.
He said interest payments on government loans would benefit the public while protecting senior citizens’ pensions from abusive private lenders.
Ordanes urged the Department of Finance and SSS to roll out an effective media campaign to better inform members about the microloan program.
The DOF earlier announced plans to implement the new microloan program in the first half of 2026 to expand safe, affordable, and convenient access to short-term credit for SSS members.
Finance Secretary Frederick Go said the program would shield members from loan sharks and other high-cost lending schemes.
