The Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) has announced the seizure of P21 million worth of shabu and hybrid cannabis at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City on Monday.
In a statement on Tuesday, Avsegroup said the five abandoned inbound parcels containing the illicit drugs were sent from Malaysia, Thailand, and the United States.
During standard cargo x-ray screenings and manual inspections, personnel from the Bureau of Customs uncovered the hidden substances, while a team from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K-9 unit played a crucial role in identifying the illegal drugs through paneling operations.
The confiscated illegal drugs were handed over to the PDEA National Office for appropriate documentation and handling.
“As authorities charged with the safety of our nation, we remain committed to ensuring that illegal drugs have no place in our country. In collaboration with airport authorities, we will persist in our efforts, leaving no loophole through which these hazardous substances can enter and ensuring that those who attempt to smuggle illegal drugs are met with the full force of justice,” Avsegroup director Brig. Gen Dionisio Bartolome Jr. said.
