The Iligan City government has officially prohibited city government employees from engaging in all forms of gambling, including those via online platforms.
In an Executive Order (EO) issued on Monday, Mayor Frederick Siao cited Republic Act 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees in the Philippines, as the legal basis for the order.
“All department heads and officers in charge are hereby mandated to ensure the strict implementation and continuous monitoring of this order,” the mayor wrote in EO 95-2025.
Siao warned city employees of both administrative and criminal penalties if they were caught gambling.
The directive takes its cue from a Department of the Interior and Local Government circular prohibiting government workers and officials from betting on online gambling platforms.
