President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has put Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin in charge of government affairs while he embarks on a five-day official visit to New Delhi, India this week.
Bersamin leads a caretaker team with Education Secretary Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III.
Mr. Marcos is scheduled to leave the Philippines today, August 4, to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India will host the visiting Filipino leader until Friday, August 8.
The trip was organized at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India.
President Marcos is expected to attend bilateral and business meetings in New Delhi followed by engagements in Bangalore.
The Philippines and India are likely to finalize at least six agreements covering areas such as law, culture, and science and technology, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
While in New Delhi, President Marcos will also have the opportunity to meet with members of the Filipino community.
This will be the first state visit to India by a Philippine president since Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s trip in October 2007.
