Covid-19 cases in the Philippines lower versus 2024—DOH

Covid-19 cases in the Philippines remain low, but the Department of Health (DOH) continues to monitor regional increases closely, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said Monday.

“We are monitoring this at the Department of Health, and accurate information will be provided to you through the DOH platform,” he assured.

According to Herbosa, from January to May this year, the Philippines recorded 1,774 Covid-19 cases—an 87% drop compared to the same period last year.

The number of new cases in the past three to four weeks also declined, falling from 71 to 65.

Despite the encouraging trend, Herbosa urged the public to remain cautious amid changing weather conditions.

“It is still best to continue preventing the spread of the disease. Wear a face mask, stay at home if you are sick,” he advised the public.

“Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Regularly wash your hands with soap and water. Seek medical consultation immediately if you experience symptoms of Covid-19,” Herbosa added.

The country’s current Covid-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.13%, or roughly one death per 100 cases.

“In the new Philippines, every life is valuable,” he concluded.
