Authorities have arrested two additional suspects in the abduction and killing of Chinese-Filipino steel magnate Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Monday.
Among those apprehended was the alleged key suspect Gong Wen Li, also known as Kelly Tan. Police said Tan was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) while staying at a resort in Boracay.
Tan allegedly played a central role in the crime, luring Que to the location where he was abducted and using the victim’s phone to negotiate a ransom with the family, according to reports.
The PNP had earlier named four other suspects in the case: David Tan Liao, Richardo Austria, Reymart Catequista, and Jonin Lin. Investigators confirmed that Que personally knew Tan Liao, who is believed to be one of the masterminds behind the kidnapping.
Que and Pabillo, were first reported missing on March 29. Their bodies were later discovered in Rodriguez, Rizal, on April 9.
The kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of $20 million. Que’s family eventually paid P200 million in cryptocurrency through multiple transactions.
Last month, the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group filed charges against three other suspects. Two Filipino nationals were arrested during a follow-up operation in Roxas, Palawan, on April 18, while a Chinese national surrendered earlier in April.
Investigations revealed that the Chinese suspect had a history of involvement in kidnapping cases, including a 2009 arrest in Angeles City and links to at least five other abduction incidents in Metro Manila between 2022 and 2024.
The PNP said efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and bring all those involved to justice.
