Palace firm vs. obstructionists

Malacañang reiterated yesterday that the administration will stand against elected officials who obstruct progress under the guise of opposition.

Presidential Communication Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro explained in a press briefing that the administration isn’t targeting specific individuals but rather advocating for cooperation.

“What we want from the people is not to be obstructionists, so that the good projects and programs of the President and the administration can continue,” she said.

Castro emphasized that the administration isn’t threatening anyone,  including senators, responding to Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s statement that senators should not be threatened if the Palace seeks unity and cooperation.

“We do not threaten anyone, we do not have threatened any senator,” she said.

Castro distinguished between legitimate opposition and obstructionism, welcoming the former while criticizing the latter.

“Legitimate oppositionists are welcome because they are needed in a democratic nation,” she said, adding that obstructionists “do nothing but destroy and block good projects just for the sake of it.”

The administration’s goal, she stressed, is to ensure the continuation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s projects and programs.”
