Reelectionist Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday secured his third consecutive and final term after being proclaimed local chief executive by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Based on data from Comelec’s transparency server with 81 percent of transmitted election returns as of Tuesday morning, Sotto had 286,897 votes against his closest rival, Sarah Discaya, at 24,163.
He was proclaimed in a short program before the Comelec city board of canvassers received all the election returns.
The Pasig Mayor has since said that a three to nine-year term is still a relatively short amount of time, so he is focusing on institutionalizing reforms made during his administration to ensure their long-term sustainability.
“We are very thankful, I thank all Pasigueños for their trust, support, and fresh mandate. What’s next is the next three years, we will reinforce the new reforms we’ve started,” Sotto told reporters in a mix of English and Filipino.
“We need to institutionalize these so that whoever will be the next leaders in Pasig, we will ensure that it is harder to do evil, harder to be corrupt, easier to be good, and easier to be true to the local government unit of Pasig,” he added.
