Civil Defense takes ‘whole-of-gov’t’ approach in Bulusan response

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday announced it is working closely with various government agencies to implement a “whole-of-government approach” in aiding families impacted by the Mount Bulusan unrest in Sorsogon.

“As Mount Bulusan continues to show signs of activity, the OCD, under the leadership of Undersecretary Ariel F. Nepomuceno and guided by Department of National Defense – Philippines Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., is working closely with various government agencies to ensure a unified and effective response,” the OCD said.

Nepomuceno has directed the swift distribution of relief supplies, including 1,500 hygiene kits and 10,000 N-95 masks, which were successfully delivered and turned over to the province on Tuesday night.

He also directed the OCD to provide daily situation reports from the Bicol Region.

Additionally, the Undersecretary instructed the agency to assist the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Health (DOH) in distributing food packs and medical supplies to those displaced.

The agency explained that this rapid response exemplifies President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive for a coordinated disaster management strategy across all government sectors.

“Support is also being extended to local government units in clearing ash from affected areas to facilitate recovery and safety,” the OCD said, adding it remains fully prepared to activate evacuation protocols if the alert level is raised further.
