GMA Network journalist Kara David received the Star Icon for Investigative Journalism and Media Excellence at the Global Filipino Icon Awards 2025 held April 5 in Dubai.
The award recognized David’s contributions to journalism, particularly her work in investigative reporting and documentaries. In her speech, she paid tribute to Overseas Filipino Workers, calling them the “true icons” of the country.
“Ang salitang ‘icon’ ay karaniwang binibigay sa mga taong may mataas na naabot sa buhay o may nagawang kahanga-hanga. Pero sa totoo lang… kayo, mga Global Pinoys, ang tunay na kahanga-hanga,” she said.
David pledged to continue producing stories that serve and inspire Filipinos, saying she feels a responsibility to both her family and the country.
She currently hosts GMA’s long-running documentary program I-Witness alongside Howie Severino, Atom Araullo, Mav Gonzales, and John Consulta, and the infotainment show Pinas Sarap.
In March, David and her I-Witness co-hosts won Best Documentary Program Hosts at the 38th PMPC Star Awards for Television. She also received the Media Excellence in Public Affairs Hosting Award (Female) at the Laurus Nobilis Media Excellence Awards.
The Global Filipino Icon Awards, organized by The Global Filipino Magazine, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to their fields in the Philippines and abroad.
