A person of interest has been identified in the Thursday shooting of Albuera, Leyte mayoral candidate Kerwin Espinosa, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas).
“We have a person of interest, but we cannot give details yet,” PRO 8 public information office chief Police Major Analiza Armeza said.
The police regional office along with the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) conducted a comprehensive investigation into the shooting incident that occurred at a gymnasium in Brgy. Tinag-an, Albuera, Leyte.
Meanwhile, Armeza said Espinosa as well as other wounded victims including vice mayoral bet Mariel Espinosa Marinay and a minor are now in stable condition.
Espinosa sustained a gunshot wound with the bullet entering his front right upper chest and exiting at his back right posterior upper arm, Marinay suffered a graze wound on her left ear, and the minor incurred a graze wound on their left shoulder.
In a Friday statement, the PRO 8 said it is doing everything to “determine the motive and ensure that justice is served.”
“PRO-8 assures the public that all efforts are being exerted to maintain peace and security, especially during the election period. We urge anyone with information to come forward and coordinate with authorities,” it said.
