ILOILO – Efforts to enhance the tourism experience in Western Visayas were heightened with Iloilo looking forward to strengthening its airport facilities while Boracay recently ramped up security measures to protect its visitors.
On March 31, the Iloilo Provincial Government gathered tourism and airport officials at the Capitol to discuss strategies for improving the arrival and departure experience of guests at Iloilo International Airport.
The goal is to transform the airport into a gateway that reflects the province’s rich heritage, vibrant culture, and renowned hospitality.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias led the meeting, joined by key figures such as Department of Tourism (DOT) Western Visayas Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, Iloilo City Councilor Romel Duron, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Head Engineer Eusebio Monserate Jr., and Iloilo Airport Terminal Supervisor Arthur Parreño.
Discussions centered on integrating local flavors, cultural elements, and improved transport services to create a seamless and welcoming experience for travelers.
Meanwhile, in Boracay, authorities have reinforced security efforts amid the island’s thriving tourism industry.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Western Visayas recently launched the Boracay Anti-Vice Unit, a specialized team focusing on intelligence and anti-criminality operations, particularly targeting illegal drugs.
PNP Western Visayas Director Brigadier Gen. Jack Wanky emphasized the importance of keeping Boracay safe for both local and international tourists.
A 22-member intelligence monitoring team will assist the Malay Municipal Police Station in proactive crime prevention and intelligence gathering.
