Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea officially stands as one of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s legal counsels as the latter prepares to undergo a pre-trial proceeding before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The two flew together to The Netherlands and arrived there late Wednesday evening after Duterte was arrested by authorities on Tuesday to face allegations of crimes against humanity by the international tribunal.
Duterte signed an official document from the ICC registering Medialdea as his legal counsel on Thursday, March 13.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy also reported on Thursday that the former President called to request a visit from consular officials to assist him in the legal proceeding.
The Embassy said Duterte asked for arrangements to be made, so he can speak with his legal counsel and a family member.
“During the call the former President conveyed, among others, that he underwent medical check up and has received medical care and that he is generally fine,” the Embassy said.
Vice President Sara Duterte, also a lawyer, is already in The Netherlands as well to discuss with her father how they will organize their defense team.
