Sen. Risa Hontiveros said the pursuit of justice for the thousands killed in former president Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war should not stop with him, urging authorities to go after all government officials and personnel responsible.
“I hope this is just the beginning of holding all government officials and personnel accountable for the killing of innocent or defenseless people,” Hontiveros said.
“The thousands of Filipinos killed during ‘tokhang’ were not murdered by one man alone,” she added.
The senator called on Malacañang to honor its commitment to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to ensure justice is served.
She also reminded Duterte of his previous statements under oath, in which he vowed to face the ICC’s legal process.
“I hope that, as a lawyer, he will follow its procedures,” Hontiveros said.
“I also hope that Malacanang will honor its word and accede to all requests of the ICC, through the Interpol, and ensure that justice will run its full course,” she concluded.
