Philippine Airlines has pledged P10 million to the PAL Foundation, which manages the Fly With Her program aimed at bridging the gender gap in aviation by supporting women in pursuing their dreams.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reiterate our commitment to helping women who dream of flying and aspire to assume top positions within the PAL organization,” said Alvin Miranda, PAL Vice President for Marketing.
In addition to the ₱10 million pledge, PAL will release a film inspired by the true story of a young girl who dreams of becoming a pilot.
The gender gap in aviation is still significant, with only about 6% of pilots worldwide being women, the company said. Philippine Airlines has long been a strong advocate for women in the airline industry.
In 1989, Captain Aimee Carandang-Gloria became Southeast Asia’s first female commercial airline pilot to operate a commercial flight. She broke new ground again in 1993 by becoming the first female airline captain in the region.
