PhilHealth reminds members of hospitalization coverage from heat-induced illness

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) assured the public that it covers hospitalizations for heat-related illnesses as the country experiences rising temperatures.

“Members and their dependents admitted to any PhilHealth-accredited health facilities due to heat stroke or heat exhaustion are entitled to a benefit package of P12,675,” said Dr. Edwin Mercado, President and CEO of PhilHealth.

“In cases of heat fatigue requiring hospitalization, the benefit package is at P18,135,” he added.

PhilHealth also encourages members to take advantage of the Konsulta Package, which provides free consultations and preventive care to detect early symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

Both the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) have issued warnings about dangerously high heat indices across various regions.

With the onset of summer, Filipinos face an increased risk of heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and heat cramps due to prolonged exposure to extreme heat.

DOH advises wearing lightweight clothing, staying in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and drinking plenty of water to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Local government units are encouraged to set up cooling stations and provide access to clean drinking water in public spaces.

“We urge our members to be vigilant, stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and seek immediate medical attention if they experience any symptoms,” Mercado said.
